Food Roots is a Community Food System non profit organization working to grow a more robust food system on the north Oregon coast. We support our region’s farmers and food entrepreneurs, we improve access to locally grown food, and we engage our community in this important work. Our core programs and projects include:
Farm and Food Business Support: Access to capital, financial and business plan training, skill building and networking through our Individual Development Account matched savings program and our FarmTable market vendor incubator program.
Farm to School Education: School gardens and garden leadership development, local food and nutrition education, farm field trips, school tasting tables and community engagement.
Access to Local Food: SNAP and SNAP incentive programming, community gardens and adult gardening opportunities, Seed to Supper curriculum, facilitation of the Tillamook County Farmers Market Network, Publication of the North Coast Food Guide and agrotourism planning and project development.
Community Education and Engagement: We work to engage our community in all our programs and also facilitate connections and networks of community members to engage in similar organizations and conversations for our region. In 2013 we facilitated a County Food Assessment, and from 2012-2014 facilitated three annual Grow the Coast farm and food conferences with partners at North Coast Food Web Clapsop County.
