OFMA is the statewide association for Oregon’s farmers’ markets, which are cornerstones of farm-direct agriculture and the local food movement in Oregon. By networking and assisting the small and sometime fragile organizations that bring local agriculture into prominent view in our communities, OFMA is fostering the small farmers who rely on those markets. Work on behalf of these farmers has both economic and ecological benefits that align with the vision of OCFSN. We engage in advocacy and education to help farmers’ markets make farm-direct and locally grown foods available to all Oregonians, regardless of financial resources. These efforts have included:

  • Applied for Farmers Market SNAP Support grant
  • Regular participation in and contribution to national conversations with USDA Federal Nutrition Services and Farmers Markets Coalition regarding SNAP access at markets
  • Close tracking of emerging technologies for SNAP and eWIC;
  • Connecting member markets to appropriate program representatives for access to these tools; telephone and email support to markets who implement SNAP acceptance
  • Continued monitoring of developments in Oregon WIC’s ongoing conversion to eWIC
  • Advocated to congressional leaders for stable federal funding of the WIC/Senior Farm Direct Nutrition Program
