Oregon Rural Action’s Food & Ag Team has worked to promote local, state and national food consciousness, as well as local production and consumption in our community. Some of our wide reaching campaigns have included advocacy for Country of Origin Labeling, and against The Trans Pacific Partnership.
Locally, we support farmer’s markets and the use of WIC and food stamps for local foods. We also have played roles in supporting farm to school programming to bring healthy locally produced food to our schools.
We encourage large organizations in our community, like the university and hospital, to adopt local food procurement policies. These policies increase the demand for local food and help local growers start and expand businesses. This helps our local economy and improves the quality and freshness of produce in institutions for eaters.
