Food Roots’ mission is to grow a robust and equitable food system in Tillamook County through community engagement, education, food producer support, and improved access to local food. Our core programs and projects include:
Farm and Food Business Support:
We support small food and farm businesses so they can produce local food for our community. We provide access to capital, financial and business plan training, skill building, and networking through our Individual Development Account matched savings program. We also provide access to indoor and outdoor growing space for beginning farmers through our Hoop House Incubator. Our FarmTable storefront, located in downtown Tillamook, provides our region’s food producers with reliable market access.
Access to Local Food:
Food Roots works to make finding and buying local food easier. We operate FarmTable, a local foods storefront that provides year-round access to the bounty of food produced on Oregon’s north coast. Through this storefront, we facilitate Double Up Food Bucks, a SNAP matching program; accept Farm Direct Nutrition Program checks distributed to low income seniors and WIC (Women Infant Children) program recipients; and redeem Fruit and Veggie Rx Vouchers distributed by Tillamook County Community Health Center to diabetic and prediabetic patients. Food Roots also facilitates seasonal Farm Shares, which deliver boxes of fresh produce to customers at the FarmTable storefront, in partnership with local farmers. FarmShares can be purchased with SNAP benefits, and Food Roots provides funding to reduce membership fees for SNAP families.
Farm to School Education:
Food Roots’ Farm to School program provides hands-on, garden-based lessons rooted in science content, along with local food tastings, farmer visits to classrooms, farm field trips, local food procurement support for school food buyers, and other Farm to School-related family and community engagement.
