Grow Portland is a nonprofit organization dedicated to hands-on, culturally-responsive school garden education. Each month, over 5,000 students, primarily at low-income schools, engage with real-world activities in school gardens during the school day. We introduce fresh vegetables in the garden and cafeteria to promote healthy eating choices while teaching environmental science topics such as water conservation, ecology, botany, soil science, and pollination. Students discover and interact with the living world right outside our doors while tending to their on-site school gardens.
We are committed to long-term partnerships with schools. Our Garden School program provides highly qualified Garden Educators as well as teaching supplies, seeds, plants, soil amendments, and gardening tools. Fundraising for the program is a collaborative effort between Grow Portland and partner schools.
